Former 2008 Miss Trinidad and Tobago/World winner Gabrielle Walcott was chosen amongst 8 finalist as the new representative for Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago last Saturday night.
There is, however, controversy buzzing around Gabrielle’s win. The talk of the town is that the competition was rigged. Angry viewers and T&T nationals were more in favor of Dr. Greer Iton, however, maybe with all her beauty and brains, she just wasn’t tall enough? Or maybe the judges already knew that they had a seasoned pageant vet in the form of Walcott and thought she was the obvious best candidate to bring home another crown.
People were fuming over the judges’ decision and some even vented by saying if they (judges) already knew that Gabby was going to win, why put on such a grand show just to raise the hopes of the contestants then to humiliate them.
Local celebrity-comedienne Rachel Price had a lot to say:

Trinidadians have really gone in attack mode on Ms. Walcott, even stating that “maybe she might get some mileage off of her boob job!” *gasp* But Trinidadians funny too, because if Gabriel wins, they would be the happiest set of people! SMH
Someone tell the other contestant that we just celebrated the 30th year anniversary of Bob Marley’s death….he is NOT a living legend!
And why wasn’t the 2010 winner Latoya Woods not present to crown the new Queen??? Hmmmmm…….

I must congratulate Gabby on finally winning the title she wanted and I wish her best of luck in Brazil for the 2011 Miss Universe competition. Rep’ Trinidad and Tobago hard and make us proud!!!!
Honorable mentions: Tobago’s entrants Shinequa Francis, 18, from Roxborough and LaTisha Hospedales, 26, from Carnbee was named first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
Shinequa Francis was also adjudged Best Physique and Miss Top Model Trinidad and Tobago 2011.
Miss Congeniality went to Jessica Didieer, 20 and Cherrese De Abreau, 26, Miss Spirit of the Pageant.
