The third woman of African heritage to capture the Miss Universe crown and the second Miss Universe in history from T&T, Wendy Fitzwilliams has kindly consented to be the patron of Jazzup The Runway, scheduled for May 29, at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre Hall from 6 pm. Four of jazz’s best musicians will be gracing the stage alongside some of T&T’s top designers and models. T&T will get the opportunity to experience talents such as internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Kimmie Horne, niece of the legendary jazz vocalist and actress, Lena Horne; New Orleans top trombonist, Delfeayo Marsalis, brother of Wynton and Branford; saxophonist, Arturo Tappin and the Sean Thomas Trio.
These ace musicians will merge with five of T&T’s hippest and most controversial young designers, such as Christian Boucaud, Shurnel, Chiz L Mensware, Koko Karibi Designs, and Off The Hook Dzigns. There will also be some surprise models in store. Jazz up the Runway is an annual event produced by Sean Thomas and the Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago (JATT), combining local fashion designers and jazz musicians simultaneously on one stage.
The show aims to build stronger ties between international and local jazz musicians with local fashion designers and top models. “The show is also building to a point where it can provide a focal point in the tourism calendar for Trinidad and Tobago, with opportunities for a constant partnering with international talents and institutions with the best of T&T. “It is going to be innovative, sophisticated, and enjoyable,” Thomas said.
