Did Tempo Turns 6 snub Kes the Band as headlining act for Shaggy????

For weeks I’ve been seeing the constant barrage of Facebook advertisements and Youtube video promos about the CCB International, Inc. and Pumpstation Entertainment’s: Six Flags Caribbean Concert Series Presents Tempo Turns 6, scheduled for this Saturday.

The Six Flag concert in July is know as one of the biggest Caribbean events of the year, with a full line up of Soca artistes. Empress Michele and I were astonished to see that at the 9th hour (July 6th) the promoters dissed Kes the Band, who was looked at as the headliner, for Cross-over Reggae superstar Shaggy!

I love my Caribbean music. The more the merrier. But why the sudden change? Do they not believe that Soca alone will be able to fill Six Flags? Hasn’t Soca done it before? Or do they believe that Kes the Band and the other soca artistes are not big enough stars to draw a crowd and sell tickets?

Apart from Kes the Band, the event includes Soca Queen Nadia Batson, former Soca Monarch Iwer George, T&T Young King Monarch Benjai, 2010 St. Vincent Soca Monarch Skinny Fabulous, Def Jam recording pop sensation Aaron Fresh, along with soca stars Lyrikal and Tallpree, with the omission of Ziggy Ranking who will no longer be performing.

Hector Carter, Director of Operations for CCB International, Inc. said in a press release last month, “This year’s show will be our biggest yet,” he adds, “We have the Caribbean’s best soca artists all performing on one stage for what is known as the largest outdoor soca concert in the USA.”

Ok…..Mr. Carter said,“… largest outdoor soca concert in the USA.”

Is Shaggy going to be singing “Toro Toro?” Don’t get me wrong, I love that sexy baritone curly haired man, however, I feel his addition to a Soca event is disrespectful to all the artistes that have been promoted for this show and have been promoting this show! Why is it Soca can’t shine by itself?

Anyhoo…we just wanted to vent about this a bit. We have no doubt that all the artistes will rock New Jersey this weekend. As long as they rep hard for SOCA and get paid….all will be well with the world!

Next up, SIX FLAGS SUMMER CONCERT – BEST OF REGGAE CHUTNEY AND SOCA on August 13th.

Sorry Kes…

I kind of agree that Shaggy was out of place at a “soca” event. But the way it went down, with Shaggy being brought on as a surprise, he didn’t steal Kes thunder at all. Most people went there for Kes and the other soca artistes, and so Shaggy was a nice surprise, but once Kes hit the stage Shaggy was forgotten.
