Last night at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, Shakira Martin was crowned the new winner of the title Miss Jamaica Universe 2011..

Shakira is 24 years old and stands 5’8”. She will represent Jamaica in the 2011 Miss Universe in Brazil

The Jamaica Observer called last night, a poor production and unorganized coronation. The event, which was scheduled to start at 8:00, never got going till nearly three and a half hours later and ended after 3 am.

There is already backlash and disapproval of the choice of the new Queen. But c’mon people, yes she is no Yendi Phillipps, but give her a chance people!
