Businessman Corey Todd is to face trial in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on November 16 stemming from an incident in which he reportedly assaulted a selector, for playing Vybz Kartel songs at a night club in Kingston.
Todd who recently had a fallout with his former business partner, Vybz Kartel, is accused of using a box of CDs to hit Dwayne Burke who uses the moniker Bill Cosby — a selector from from the popular sound system Stone Love — during a party at Club Riddim (formerly The Building), on August 3.
It is reported that Todd, who is the owner of the club, threw the box at the selector, which hit him on his hand causing swelling, after he refused to desist from playing songs by Vybz Kartel.
According to Burke, Todd also threw a banner on him before he was hit with the box.
The matter was reported and Todd was summoned to appear in court.
However, yesterday in court Todd’s attorney, Everton Dewar, told the court that his client was innocent on the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Dewar said on the day in question, the selector played nine songs that were done by Vybz Kartel but when he played one which disrespected his client, Todd told him not to play it and he refused.
The lawyer said his client threw the box at the artiste but it bounced on the turn table and did not hit Burke. According to Dewar, Burke reported the matter because of influence.
Todd was then fingerprinted and was bound over to return to court for trial.
