Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel who was arrested on Friday morning at a hotel in Kingston for illegal possession of marijuana, remains in police custody at this time, and will reportedly be interviewed by police investigators early this week.
Following Vybz Kartel’s arrest, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, has disclosed that other entertainers have popped up on the police radar and could be arrested soon.
“We have an interest in at least 10 other members of the entertainment industry, some of whom have been implicated in a number of murders and shootings,” Powell revealed to the Gleaner.
The dancehall star, who was under the microscope of senior detectives for several months, got a surprise visit on Friday from a team of detectives, who turned up at a small but prominent St Andrew-based hotel, where the entertainer frequented.
Kartel was charged with illegal possession of ganja, pending further investigation.
Upon his arrest, Kartel was taken to various premises said to be owned and/or frequented by him, including a house in Norbrook, St. Andrew, his mother’s house in Portmore, and a burnt-out house in Havendale.
All the locations were searched, and Kartel will reportedly be questioned in relation to a body which was previously found at one of the premises in St. Andrew.
Kartel will be questioned in the presence of his high-powered legal team which includes Tom Tavares Finson, Christian Tavares Finson and Michael Deans.
