UPDATE: Vybz Kartel denied bail and will face Court today for Murder charge.

Dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel will have his first court hearing today for his highly publicised murder trial.

The artiste, born Adidja Palmer, appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he faced the possession of ganja charge for which he was arrested on September 30.

Kartel’s lawyer application for bail was denied by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey, based on the fact that the artiste has to face the court again today, on more serious charges – murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm..

Vybz Kartel was charged last week following an high profile arrest on Friday (Sept 30) in Kingston. The deejay was taken to several homes he either frequent or owned, where extensive searches was carried out and computer equipment siezed.

Kartel’s high profile arrest on Friday September 30th, in Kingston was for possession of marijuana, however, on Monday October 3rd he was also charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearm, in connection to the murder of St. Catherine businessman Barrington “Bossie” Burton.

If Kartel is allowed bail later today on these more serious charges, the Magistrate has indicated the possibility of him then being allowed bail on the ganja charge.

Meanwhile: Vybz Kartel’s protege Shawn Storm remains behind bars after turning himself over to police earlier this week. Storm was named a person of interest and was being sought by lawmen.
