Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley was recently named the second most talked about artiste in 2011. Marley falls second to first-place winner Barbados-born international pop star Rihanna.

The Caribbean artistes rankings were based on their prominence in the media, profile interests and the number of Facebook ‘likes’. Both musicians are said to have snatched over 47 million ‘likes’ on Facebook’s ‘Most Talked About Artist’ lists.

The other fastest growing pages on the social network Facebook belonged to Avril Lavigne, David Guetta, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Lady GaGa, Metallica, Green Day and Black Eyed Peas, respectively.

‘RiRi’ also copped the top spot of having the most listened to song of 2011 on the network with her collaboration with Calvin Harris entitled We Found Love. The 23-year-old Bajan star emerged on the R&B scene in 2005 after signing a musical contract with Def Jam Records, then led by Jay-Z. Her debut album Music Of The Sun soared to a spot in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart. The singer has since released five other chart topping albums making her one of best selling artists of all time.

Marley is known worldwide as the King of Reggae. The late singer’s best known hits include One Love, Redemption Song, Buffalo Soldier, Three Little Birds, Stir It Up to name a few. – Jamaica Observer
