Keecia Ellis, daughter of the late musical icon Alton Ellis, is Miss Jamaica UK 2011-12.
Miss Ellis captured the title at the 22nd staging of Miss Jamaica UK a in London over the weekend.
Hosted under the distinguished patronage of High Commissioner to London, Miss Ellis told RJR News that among her priorities during her reign is to initiate a greater awareness of laws relating to copyright issues within the reggae music industry.
She said that such is her passion as too many reggae artists are having problems surrounding such legislation and their ability to access royalties.
She also pledged to take centre stage in many Jamaican communities across Britain during 50th year of independence celebrations next year, promoting the values and cultural legacy that makes Jamaica and its people proud.
Chief organizer, June Daley, highlighted the significance of Jamaica’s independence celebrations in Britain next year, stating that Miss Jamaica UK will play a vital role in helping to fly the flag high. Proceeds from the pageant will go to Jamaica’s Inner city Foundation and the East Africa Famine appeal.
