Jermaine Paul, the former backup singer for Alicia Keys is the new winner of NBC’s singing competition, “The Voice.”

Paul sealed his fate with a stellar performance of R Kelly’s hit song “I Believe I Can Fly” beating Tony Lucca, Juliet Simms and Chris Mann on the final night of the competition.

“You got me to stand on my feet” vocal coach Christina Aguilera told him after his performance.

“You just sing with so much heart and so much emotion. That song was made for you” she said.

“It was a perfect song choice for tonight’s event” Cee Lo Green reiterated.

Watch Jermaine’s performance below:

R Kelly wrote, performed and produced the original version of “I Believe I Can Fly” in 1996 for the soundtrack to the film “Space Jam.”

The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard “R&B Singles” chart for six weeks in the USA and was the #1 song in the United Kingdom as well. Kelly is back at the top of the Billboard chart again, this time with his smash single “Share My Love” (RCA/ Sony). And he’s returning to New York for a Sunday, July 1, 2012 concert billed “Groovin In The Park” at Roy Wilkins Park – his first major appearance in the city since 2006.

The Queens concert will celebrate the independence of three nations, the United States celebrating its 236th, and Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago who are both celebrating 50 this year.

Kelly will be joined by hit machine Boyz II Men, along with reggae icons Jimmy Cliff and Beres Hammond.
