The Penn relays in Philadelphia, one of the largest track and field meets in the world took place from the 26th to the 28th of April 2012 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Five teams from Trinidad and Tobago colleges participated, as well as a women’s and a men’s national team.
The Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York, Mrs. Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam greeted the Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica who was present to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence and support the massive Jamaican contingent of 38 teams. Consul General Ramgoolam also met with the athletes and officials from the national team while warming up on Franklin Field to offer support and encouragement before their races.

Mr. Edwin Roberts former Olympic medallist, and his wife, hosted a reception at his home after the meet. The Consul General was delighted to meet with Mr. Kent Bernard, another member of the medal winning Olympic team, Dr. Lennox Yearwood, Commonwealth Games medallist and Mr. Ormand Sharpe, fellow athlete among the Trinidad and Tobagonian guests present.

The Consulate General also conducted an outreach program, hosted by the gracious Old Pine Community Center on Lombard Road in Philadelphia. The attendees commented that they were extremely pleased to get assistance and meet with the staff of the Consulate General and prominent Philadelphia radio personality, DJ Ross offered to repeat the experience on a larger scale with an outdoor event.
