Congratulations are in order to Miss Lime – Carice Glasglow, who was crowned the new Miss SVG last Saturday.
The 23 year old winner out ranked first runner-up Terranza Franklyn (Miss Mustique Company) and second runner-up Jovonne John (Miss St. Vincent Brewery Ltd.).
According to St. Vincent’s I-Witness News, Glasgow’s responses in the interview segment gave her the edge over her competitors. She was asked:
“You represented the University of the Virgin Islands at the Black College Queen Competition in Atlanta what exposure did you gain from that event?”
She responded: “The National College Alumni Hall of Fame Queens’ Competition in Atlanta is a competition for all black college queens from all 135 HBCUs across the United States of America. By attending this pageant, I was able to make life-long friends with other queens from various states across the United States of America. And it also propelled me because I had the ability to meet very prominent businessmen and women in Atlanta.”
In response to the randomly selected question “What advise would you give to persons who use their cellphones while driving?” Glasgow, who is sponsored by a company that provides mobile telecommunications services, said:
“I would tell these individuals that this is a very unsafe practice. It is quite common around the world. However, it is one of the leading causes of vehicular accidents. So I think here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines — being Miss Lime, I think we need to step in and inform the public about the dangers of driving while using their cellphones.”
Glasgow is a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance, at the University of the Virgin Islands where she’s already earned an Associate Degree in computer science.
Her winnings Saturday night include an EC$80,000 university scholarship and EC$8000 in prize money and a laptop from Courts St. Vincent. The winner will also participate in the Miss Carival 2012 competition on Friday July 6.
Saturday’s show was held under the theme “A Combination of Passion and Brilliance”.
