Several organizations in Brooklyn have formed a coalition in partnership with The Center Against Domestic Violence, to launch MISSION UPLIFT, an endeavor that seeks to uplift the spirit, hope and self-esteem of domestic violence victims who live in shelters.

The goal of MISSION UPLIFT is to allow these women to realize their beauty, irrespective of the pain and subjugation to which they were likely exposed that resulted in their temporary displacement.  By embracing love, life and self, these women will be positioned to accept that their abuse was wholly undeserved, and subsequently be better prepared to progress and avoid a similar situation in the future.

The coalition hopes to collect enough donated beauty products to distribute to three shelters that house approximately 1,000 women and children every year in the New York area.

All donations are welcome; from shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body lotion, nail polishes, make up, to combs, curling irons, blow dryers and hair products. All contributions will be distributed to the Center Against Domestic Violence hopefully by Aug 31st 2012.

The coalition for MISSION UPLIFT is comprised of Leading Ladies, a nonprofit organization that provides essentials for women and children in need, HOTMYLK, a support network for mothers, bartending event contracting company,Louve Potions, Cosmetologist Belza Dentro and the Caribbean Entertainment Mediahouse, Jay Blessed media.

Donations can be made by contacting theleadingladies@hotmail.com or by dropping off contributions at Caribbean Soul Restaurant (Soulé), located at 920 Fulton Street in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. Soulé customers who contribute will also receive 10% off their order on the day the donation is made.

Brooklyn drop off locations also include Sugarcane Restaurant (238 Flatbush Avenue) and both Superwings NY (1218 Union Street and 888 Utica Avenue).
