Puerto Rican supermodel Joan Smalls land the cover of W Magazine for their July 2012 issue titled, Super Modern Models.
The biracial rising star gals, went blonde for the fashion magazine’s glossy spread shot by famous photographer Steven Meisel.
Joan told the magazine:
“I just have something to prove…I know I’m representing a group—black, Latin, whatever you want to put me with—and I want to show that they are beautiful the way they are. I think that’s really important for our youth to see. Fashion is part of our culture…And it’s about more than just a pretty dress.”

Joan credits her string of success to Givenchy’s Creative Director Riccardo Tisci saying,“When I first started it never picked up for me, doing shows.” But after Riccardo booked her for Givenchy in 2010, she says, “He saw my potential. And it changed people’s perspective.”
