Sunday, December 9, 2012 will be etched in music history at the new Barclays Center. The fifteen thousand (15,000) capacity home of the Brooklyn Nets, will host its debut Reggae concert The Sounds of Reggae Concert. This concert will be particularly meaningful as Jamaica, West Indies celebrates its 50th year of independence.
UB40 originated in Bingham England im1978, and with hard work they achieved considerable international recognition. Led by lead singer Ali Campbell and band- mate Brian Travers, the group was influenced by their love for the many diverse sounds of reggae; Ska and early Lovers Rock music. They became a commercial success with several hits making the charts (US & UK Billboard Hot 100) including chart toppers – “Red Red Wine”, “Can’t help Falling in Love” and their version of “I Got You Babe”. To date UB40 has sold over 70 million records and continue to perform to sold-out concert houses.
Maxi Priest is one of only two British reggae acts to have an American Billboard number one song: “Close to You” in 1990. His duet with Grammy Winner Shaggy in 1996, “That Girl”, was also a hit in the United States, peaking at number twenty. He has also worked alongside reggae legends Sly & Robbie, Beres Hammond and most notably in the reggae community his monster collaboration with another Grammy-Award winner for Reggae, Shabba Ranks on their hit single, “House Call (Body Can’t Lie to Me)”. In 1991 His Reggae Fusion was very successful and his songs not only went to the top of the chart – American Billboard but he also became a Grammy winning recording artist. His success led to performances with the legendary Roberta Flack, singing “Set the Night to Music” sealing his place not only in Reggae but in music history.
This is going to be the most featured reggae event to hit the Tri-state market this year.
