Blood-sucking Parasite named after Bob Marley! Are you offended or proud?

American Marine Biologist, Dr Paul Sikkel’s love for Bob Marley has propelled him to name a blood sucking parasite after the late, great icon.

“I named this species, which is truly a natural wonder, after Marley because of my respect and admiration for Marley’s music. Plus, this species is as uniquely Caribbean as was Marley.”

The name of the parasite is Gnathia marleyi.

Surprisingly, the Marley clan is absolutely okay with the naming of this parasite about Bob Marley, unfortunately the same cannot be said for some of the Jamaican populace.

The parasite is said to be one that plagues fishes on coral reefs found in the Caribbean Sea.

Bob Marley is definitely not the first celebrity to have had a parasite named after him. Celebrities such as Playboy Hugh Hefner, comdeian Stephen Colbert, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and even songstress Beyonce all have insects named after them. Interesting!!!
