VPAL, VP Associated Label Group, which is a subsidiary of VP Records, has launched a new logo to boost its recognition to help talented independent reggae artists.
VPAL Director Donovan Williams says, “Our new logo represents strength and a new direction which we intend to take VPAL as a physical and digital distribution company.”
VP Records was founded in 1979 by the late Vincent “Randy” Chin and his wife Patricia Chin. VP Records established itself as one of the first and largest independent record labels for reggae and dancehall, and with the popularity of the riddim sound of the early 2000s, the label achieved the worldwide success for artists such as Sean Paul through the label’s deals with Warner Music’s Atlantic Records and Virgin Music Canada.
VP Records has been awarded Billboard’s “Best Independent Label” for two consecutive years and has received the award for “Best Reggae Imprint Label” for three consecutive years. VP was also nominated for “Best Independent Reggae Label” at the 2003 Billboard Hip-Hop and R&B awards.
To spread excellent reggae music worldwide further, VP Records launched VPAL in 2010. VPAL deals with independent artists and record labels for distribution. Through VP Records’ distribution channel, VPAL distributes music worldwide to help talented reggae artists.
One of the biggest successes of VPAL is Israel Vibration’s “Reggae Knights.” The album got high recognition and strong sales through VPAL distribution and it was nominated for 2012 Grammy for Best New Reggae Album after all.
Another accomplishment for VPAL is Konshens, who is one of the hottest dancehall artists now, who had his album upstreamed from VPAL to the VP Label after his successful album “Mental Maintenance” with VPAL. VPAL’s recent release includes Mr. Vegas “Sweet Jamaica,” which was ranked at #34 on The 50 Best Albums of 2012 (so far) by Complex Magazine.
