It seems as though the Caribbean is becoming a permanent fixture on Lifetime Television’s Project Runway.
This season, Ven Budhu, a Guyanese designer is creating a stir and the show is only at its second episode.
Ven, 28, won the Candy Couture challenge; this unconventional challenge required the designers to create outfits out of candy from Dylan’s Candy Bar (Dylan is the daughter of fashion icon Ralph Lauren). Ven’s win gave him immunity.
The judges were pretty impressed with his design for this challenge, check it out below:
For the first episode the designers were tasked with creating a companion piece for a design they had done earlier to be shown at the Project Runway 10th Anniversary live runway show at Times Square in New York City. Ven came second in this challenge.
Ven was born in Berbice, Guyana and moved to the United States at age 4. He has had an inkling for fashion from a very early age. A graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in womenswear, Ven believes that he has the ‘taste and eyes’ for designing, it’s something he says you cannot learn or acquire. He auditioned for Project Runway back in Season 3 and is hopeful that now with new experiences and knowledge he’ll win Season 10.
Ven already has his own line called GAVASKAR.
Check out two pieces from his fashion line below:
BUT…..rumor has it that Ven has one of the worst personalities on the show. Would his pompousness and arrogance hinder his chances at winning the entire competition?
Here is a video of Ven’s casting session
Needless to say he is said to be one of the BEST designers thus far.
Here is a video from the last episode.
Fingers crossed for another Caribbean win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t forget to tune on Thursdays for Project Runway Season 10 on Lifetime TV at 9pm ET.
