The Caribbean and the world saw potential in Grenadian Kirani James and knew that he was going to shine in the recent 400 meter race.
The favored teenage athlete brought home the first ever Olympic gold medal for his country and in return, Grenada is showing their love and appreciation!
James, 19, didn’t disappoint and proved the world right after capturing Olympic gold in the 4oo meter race on Tuesday at the London Olympics. He is the first non American runner to break the 44-second barrier in the 400 meter race giving him also the accolade of having the fastest time ever by a Caribbean athlete in the 400-meter.
James won this race ahead of the Dominican Republic’s Luguelin Santos and Trinidad and Tobago’s Lalonde Gordon who took silver and bronze, respectively. Caribbean sweep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Caribbean went mad and Grenada erupted in much celebration with persons dancing and cheering in the streets. James won the country’s first Olympic gold in a personal best of 43.94 seconds.
The Grenadians were so elated that the government declared Tuesday afternoon of August 7th a national holiday.
Kirani’s win is indeed shining the spotlight on the spice isle.
