On August 18th 2012, Brooklyn-based group – Leading Ladies, will present their first ever Walkathon and Family Day under the theme, WALK AWAY.
Founded in May 2012, Leading Ladies has been steadfastly gaining support in their positive endeavors in support of victims and survivors of domestic abuse. WALK AWAY is the first family-based initiative for Leading Ladies, as they have tagged the line, “Walk in need for a woman in speed,” in support of their continuous effort to encourage, assist and uplift victims of domestic violence.
“Our Mission is to help women residing at the Center Against Domestic Violence. We aim to Uplift,Enlighten, Restore Hope and Build Faith! On August 18th, people can expect to witness survivors of Domestic Violence and their supporters walking in solidarity against the unnecessary violence that plagues our families or communities and the world,” stated Anika McDowell, founder of leading Ladies
She added, “WALK AWAY will raise awareness and encourage discussion of Domestic Violence to erase the stigma and also promote healthy family habits of exercise and fun! I hope that people will leave inspired to join ‘Mission Uplift’ and donate beauty supplies needed to make this event a success.”
Walk Away takes place at 10am on August 18th at Marine Park (Stuart Avenue between Avenues S & T) Brooklyn, New York.
Leading Ladies recently presented “Hear Their Cries” – an open mic dedicated to victims of domestic violence in New York. Performing acts included Broadway actress Derika Abraham, singers / songwriters – Peter “Wildfire” Noel, Venor aka Mr. R&B, famed pannist Dane Gulston, as well as Louve, Jahni Moody, Aries, Vida Nu-Being, Joe Kenneth Museau, Brittni Heflin, Distinguished, SMAX Music, Kevin Livingston, Honest Abe, Dre Cleveland and 10 year old sensation, Devyn Tyson.
