T&T PM accused of giving Machel too many special privileges including use of state helicopter!

The Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement is demanding that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Minister of National Security Jack Warner tell the national community, on whose authorization was a Ministry of National Security helicopter used to transport entertainer Machel Montano and his entourage from Trinidad, to perform at a fete at Canoe Bay, in Tobago, at 4.00 a.m., on Independence Day.

A report in a weekly newspaper featured a picture of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar on stage during the early morning hours of the fete. That report stated that “International Soca Monarch and Road March Monarch champion Machel Montano finally touched down in Tobago just after 4.00 a.m., on Independence morning.” The report further revealed that “the mega show was the brainchild of TOP boss man Ashworth Jack.”

The Tobago Council wishes to advise the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Security that many Tobagonians are now aware of this sequence of events and they are scandalized at the blatant misuse of the Ministry’s helicopter and manpower in the promotion of a private fete. This untenable state of affairs is compounded by the association of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and the Minority Leader of the Tobago House of Assembly with the activities at Canoe Bay on Independence Day.

In those circumstances, the Tobago Council reiterates that the national community must receive an explanation of these early Independence morning activities which, based on the available information, could be construed as misuse of public resources and even, misbehaviour in public office.
