It is official, Trinidadian soca star Kerwin Du Bois will not be showing up for the LIME 10th Annual Creole in the Park (CITP).
Dominica News Online reported earlier this week that Du Bois was a no show for the event but LIME was tight-lipped on the matter.
At a press conference on Thursday Geoff Astaphan, a representative for Carib Beer who was responsible for the selection of the artistes for the soca segment of the show, confirmed that Du Bois will not be performing.
“I have to apologize to the fans and the LIME committee and everyone who was expecting him…but it is what it is. I am apologizing on behalf of everyone. He really wanted to come down. He had committed himself and due to unforeseen circumstances, he really cannot make it. There are certain people who speculated, but it is what it is,” he said.
The Trinidadian soca artiste is well known in Dominica for his hit song “Bacchanalist” and was scheduled to perform on the third day of the four-day event.
Meantime Country Manager for LIME Jeffery Baptiste says the non inclusion of Du Bois will not negatively impact Creole in the Park.
“We opted for him because we felt the song was very popular and unfortunately that fell through. Creole in the Park however, is bigger than any one artiste. The no show of Kerwin Du Bois will not negatively impact the success of the CITP,” he noted.
He said an event that touches so many significant areas in Dominica cannot be hindered by the unavailability of any one artiste.
“Our local musicians will showcase their talents. We will connect the Caribbean with other internationally acclaimed artists…we want to make the point to the public that not having him will in no way adversely impact the quality of this year’s event,” he said.
The LIME boss said his company will commit greater effort to ensure that “we can turn what may well be seen as a disappointment to a positive story at the end of the day.”
