SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Wednesday March 16, 2011 – A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook the Dominican Republic this morning just days after experts warned that the country is at risk of experiencing a quake similar to the one that hit neighbouring Haiti last year.
There were no immediate reports of major damage or injury, however.
The quake, which hit around 9:37 am about 77 miles east north east of La Romana, Dominican Republic at a depth of 0.6 km (0.4 miles), was measured at 5.3 magnitude by the Santo Domingo State University’s UASD Seismology Institute. The US Geological Survey initially put it at 5.0.

I am still shocked by the March 11th 8.9 earthquake and tsunami that obliterated the coastal area of Japan. Our prayers and thoughts at Jay Blessed Media go out to our brothers and sisters there.
This natural disaster has triggered me to question, will a tsunami hit the Caribbean? And when? There have been frequent earthquakes in the region; not forgetting the 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010, hurricane seasons and the recent rapid change in Mother Nature’s mood.

Rihanna’s new perfume, Reb’l Fleur, is named after a childhood nickname her grandmother gave her and is the singer’s debut into the fragance market.
The Bajan native wanted to create a fragrance that reflected her “Barbados heritage and New York and L.A. lifestyles.” The scent which launched back on January and retail for $49 for the 1.6 oz., $59 for the 3.4 oz., and $30 for the 6.7 oz. body lotion. It’s a mixture of Hawaiian hibiscus flower, violet, tuberose, coconut water, vanilla, patchouli, amber, and musk.
